Roberto Herrera

Managing Director, Head of Dominican Republic

Roberto Herrera is the Country Manager for the Dominican Republic and a director of the Board of Interenergy Group. He is the CEO/President and board member of La Compañía de Electricidad de San Pedro de Macorís (ENERGAS a 300MW combined cycle power plant) and Executive Director and Vicepresident of the Board of Consorcio Energético Punta Cana-Macao (CEPM, a vertically integrated utility), Compañía de Electricidad de Bayahibe (CEB, a vertical integrated utility), Grupo Eólico Dominicano (GEDOM, owner of an operating 50MW wind farm and concessions for an additional 100MW), Interenergy Systems (a technology solutions provider for the utility, tourist and electric mobility sectors) and ACTIVA (a telecomunications Company).

Roberto also oversees Energas interest in Enadom an LNG infrastructure company in partnership with AES. Member of the executives committes of CONEP (Private Business Council), AIRD (Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic) and of the American Chamber of Commerce in the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR).

At AMCHAMDR he was the 2021-2022 President of the Board of Directors and President of the Organizing Committee of Dominican Week in USA. Further he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Dominican-Italian Chamber of Commerce.

He is the 2024-2025 President of the Dominican Association of the Electrical Industry and of the Santo Domingo Water Fund (an organization that design and promote financial and governance mechanisms, engaging public, private, and civil society stakeholders in order to contribute to water security through solutions grounded on nature-based infrastructure and sustainable management of watersheds), Vicepresident of the Rountable of Commonwealth Countries in the D.R. (an organization that promotes the stre, member of the board of regents of the Instituto Tecnologico de Santo Domingo (INTEC a top private university) and of the Energy Steering Committee of the Institute of the Americas.

He is a former President of the British Chamber of Comerce in the Dominican Republic, of the European Federation Chambers of Commerce, of the Red Nacional de Apoyo Empresarial a la Protección Ambiental (ECORED, a private organization that works for a more sustainable environment), of the Dominican Chapter of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) and from 2015 to 2021 of the Asociación Dominicana de la Industria Eléctrica (ADIE, an association of private sector electric power generators and distributors).

In 2013, he was chosen for the 1st place at the “Top 40 under 40” annual ranking by Mercado Magazine (a Dominican business magazine) and also selected as a “Young Global Leader” by the World Economic Forum.

He is also the current President of the Board of Directors of Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos in the Dominican Republic (NPH provides orphaned, abandoned and disadvantaged children with an opportunity to end the cycle of poverty.

Children are given a safe home, warm meals and an education. Most importantly, they are given unconditional love and support.) and Vice-Treasurer for Fundación Sinfonía (a private foundation that supports music initiatives) Roberto has an economics and MBA degrees from Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

In 1997 he received a British Chevening Scholarship to study a Master of Science in Business Economics at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. In 2022 Roberto was awarded an MBE from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for his commitment with clean energy. Roberto is married to Elayne and has 2 children Roberto Andres and Maria del Carmen.
