Roberto Herrera

Managing Director, Head of Dominican Republic

Roberto Herrera is an energy sector executive and business leader who currently serves as Managing Director, Country Manager for the Dominican Republic and a Director of the Board of Interenergy Group. He is also CEO and board member of the following Interenergy companies: La Compañía de Electricidad de San Pedro de Macorís (ENERGAS) and Executive Director and Vicepresident of the Board of Consorcio Energético Punta Cana-Macao (CEPM), Compañía de Electricidad de Bayahibe (CEB), Grupo Eólico Dominicano (GEDOM), Interenergy Systems (thermal energy and software solutions), EVERGO (electric vehicle charging stations) and ACTIVA (a telecomunications company).

Herrera serves on the board of several business and non profit organizations in the Dominican Republic and in the USA. He is a member of the executives committees of CONEP, AIRD and AMCHAMDR. Also, President of the Santo Domingo Water Fund, Vicepresident of the Rountable of Commonwealth Countries in the D.R., member of the Multisectoral Commision of “Marca País”, member of the board of regents of the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo (INTEC), director of the Board of Directors of the Dominican-Italian Chamber of Commerce. Furthermore he is a member of the Energy Steering Committee of the Institute of the Americas.

Roberto is a past President of the American Chamber of Commerce, the British Chamber of Commerce, the Dominican Association of the Electrical Industry and the National Network of Private Sector Support for the Enviroment Protection (ECORED).

Roberto is also involved in several not for profit institutions and foundations such as the Foundation for the Support of Children with Cancer (FACCI), Our little brothers and sisters (NPH), the Santo Domingo Water Fund, the Symphony Foundation (SINFONIA) and the Christopher Columbus Lighthouse recovery committee.
In 2013 Roberto was chosen as Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and landed the No.1 spot in the Top 40 under 40 ranking of local business magazine Mercado. On March 2022 he was granted an MBE from her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Roberto has an economics and MBA degrees from Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. In 1997 he received a British Chevening Scholarship to study a Master of Science in Business Economics at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland, graduating in 1998. In 2014 he concluded IESE’s Global CEO Programme (a joint IESE, Wharton and China Europe International Business School program. He has also completed post graduate courses at Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Wharton.
